Spa of the Week: Fonteverde Tuscany Spa

By Olivia Cuccaro

Fonteverde Tuscany - Spa of the WeekImmersed in the hills of Tuscany among picturesque olive groves and vineyards, Fonteverde is a pastoral wellness destination steeped in history. Once home to the influential Medici family, the 17th-century property has since been transformed into a rustic spa halfway between Florence and Rome, Italy. Relax with panoramic views of the unspoiled countryside from a 460ft outdoor pool after a day of revitalizing thermal treatments, renewing massages and expert physiotherapy at Fonteverde Spa.

Fonteverde Tuscany embraces the healing powers of the surrounding nature, sourcing its therapeutic soaking pools from the nearby San Casciano dei Bagni hot-spring waters. Unaltered by chemical or physical treatments, the pure waters provide numerous benefits to the musculoskeletal system, nervous system and respiratory system with antioxidant properties and potent vapors. The flow of the water gradually works to exfoliate skin, while even simply consuming it promotes health through its calcium and electrolyte content.

Fonteverde Tuscany - Spa of the WeekThe 53,800-sq-ft spa offers more than 100 treatments ranging from traditional Eastern disciplines to ancient Mediterranean rituals to the latest diet and fitness plans centered on a philosophy of “equilibrium.” Resident spa guru Dipu designed a collection of six treatments around the restorative benefits of hot springs, tailored to the unique needs of individual guests. Using 100°F thermal water, each treatment targets an issue — be it stress, anxiety, physical pain or tension — by minimizing gravity and restoring balance. Try the signature Dipu Five Senses Massage: a 90-minute, multiphase treatment comprising a facial peel, hydromassage bath perfumed with healing Ayurvedic plants, Shiatsu massage, acupressure therapy and Shirodhara technique where aromatherapy oil is gently poured over the forehead. The Reflexology Pada treatment focuses on the feet, but the pressure points attended to have an effect on the entire body, enhancing overall wellbeing.

Capture breathtaking views of the rolling Val d’Orcia landscape from the suite’s terrace at sunset before heading down for a cocktail under the stars at Il Falconiere Bar. The resort boasts its own helipad, allowing you to transfer easily from the country’s airports or even map out a journey over the Italian countryside during your stay.
