By Lauren Jade Hill

By Lauren Jade Hill

Each one of these exclusive beach resorts lies on the shores of its own pristine island, with an isolated setting affording guests an unrivaled sense of escapism. From the jewel-colored Indian Ocean, to the vibrant Caribbean, we take a look at where to go in search of the best beach resorts on private islands.

Velaa Private Island, the Maldives

@velaaprivateisland

This tiny private island lies within the Noonu Atoll of the Maldives, accessed by seaplane from the capital Male. As you’d expect, the resort lies alongside powdery white-sand shores, which are lapped by the crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean and lined with tropical palms. Considered to be among the Maldives’ most luxurious resorts, Velaa Private Island encompasses both beach-front and overwater villas, a collection of lavish restaurants and bars, and a sweeping golf course and superb spa.

Constance Tsarabanjina, Madagascar

The Mitsio Archipelago lies 70 kilometres north of Nosy Be, off Madagascar’s northwest coast, making the small islands exceptionally isolated. It’s within this pristine archipelago that the private island Tsarabanjina can be found. The small island was uninhabited until the explorer Richard Walker stumbled across it and decided to build a luxury resort there. And now owned by Constance Resorts, Tsarabanjina is home to beach-facing, palm-thatched villas combining contemporary lux with Malagasy craftsmanship, and an opened-fronted restaurant and bar that’s the ideal spot for sundowners with a view.

Amanpulo, the Philippines

@aman

Situated in the Sulu archipelago of Palawan in the Philippines, this island resort by Aman stands out for its flawless white-sand beaches, turquoise water and lush green interior. Amid these surroundings, the resort itself aims to seamlessly transition its interiors with the outdoors, making the most of the island’s natural beauty, with an award-winning spa, and a number of dining venues. Sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving are all particularly rewarding, with a pristine coral reef to snorkel to offshore.

Marlon Brando’s luxury resort lies within the Polynesian atoll of Tetiaroa, a little to the north of Tahiti, on a collection of small islands surrounding a lagoon. Here, 35 villas with private pools line the powdery white-sand shores, facing out to sea. Guests who stay here can spend their days kayaking or sailing in the lagoon, snorkeling with the tropical fish and sea turtles, or venturing to nearby islands, before tucking into Polynesian-inspired and classic French cuisine.

Jumby Bay, Antigua

Best Beach Resorts

@jumbybayresort

The Rosewood Resort Jumby Bay is one of the Caribbean’s most enticing private islands in its secluded location two miles from Antigua. Named after the Antiguan word ‘jumbee’, which means playful spirit, the island resort offers bountiful opportunity to explore the land and sea, from yachting and sailing to cycling along the island’s network of bicycle trails. Then, as the sun goes down, guests can dine on exemplary Caribbean cuisine with their toes in the sand.

North Island, the Seychelles

Best Beach Resorts

@live.north

This luxury private island resort lies at the heart of the Seychelles. Just like the other islands in this region, North Island is celebrated for its abundance of wildlife, which includes a number of endemic species. North Island is characterized in particular by its granite peaks, lush forest and white-sand shores, making the natural beauty the focus of the stay. But the resort is particularly special, too, with just 11 villas, offering total seclusion and superlative luxury.

Alphonse Private Island, the Seychelles

Another stand-out spot in the Seychelles is the breath-taking Alphonse Private Island. Situated on the Alphonse atoll, the resort sits amid an unspoiled environment of lush greenery that’s fringed by tranquil shores and lagoons. While staying in one of the plush beach bungalows, guests can explore the island and its surroundings, both over and under the water, and dine on the bounty of fresh produce that’s sourced from the sea and land.

Necker Island, British Virgin Islands

Best Beach Resorts

@virginlimitededition

Famous for its exclusivity, Richard Branson’s remote resort, Necker Island, is within the turquoise waters of the British Virgin Islands. The island resort encompasses Balinese-style villas and communal spaces with cliff-top settings boasting uninterrupted views out to sea. Alternatively, guests can opt to dine and imbibe on the beach, or at the Floating Sushi Bar in the pool. The island is inhabited by an abundance of wildlife, which Richard Branson introduced in an effort to help preserve endangered species.
