The aquarium is divided into four distinct ecosystems representing the waters, wildlife and flora of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Antarctic oceans. Constructed in 1998 for the World Fair, the Oceanário aims to promote conservation of the seas and a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour lets visitors see firsthand how this awe-inspiring facility and its inhabitants are managed. The Oceanário is an unforgettable experience and you can top it off by spending the night right next to the shark tank! Further details and tickets are available online.

Located in the historic district of Belém, the Mosteiro Dos Jerónimos is a masterpiece of Manueline architecture and considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe.

The monastery was founded in 1501 by King Manuel I and constructed in celebration of Portugal’s wealth and power during its Golden Age of Discovery. A recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site, the majestic cloisters feature maritime motifs of intricate coils of rope, sea-monsters and coral. Many of Portugal’s great kings and literary heroes are entombed here – a real architectural gem not to be missed.
