The 6 Best Hotels in Zurich

By Zahra Al-Kateb

THE DOLDER GRAND

DOLDER GRAND HOTEL

The Dolder Grand Hotel is synonymous with pleasure, exclusivity and relaxation, boasting an enviable location high above the city offering panoramic views of the financial district, Lake Zurich and the Alps.

The original building opened in 1899, closed in 2004 and reopened in 2008 after a $400 million renovation. With new spa and golf wings designed by Norman Foster, this luxury hotel boasts four top suites and has fused its traditional heritage with a contemporary style and function. The Dolder Grand also displays more than a hundred pieces of artwork, two well-established restaurants and a 4,300 square foot spa. Previous guests have included the Rolling Stones, U2, former US President Bill Clinton and Hilary Clinton, and Prince Philip. We recommend staying here for the exquisite dining on offer and one of the city’s most luxurious spas.

TOP SUITE THE MAESTRO SUITE

Why we love it: The Maestro Suite is the most luxurious suite at the Dolder Grand, located on two floors in the tower of the main building. Rich leathers, lavish rugs and dark woods adorn the space and the ceiling features exposed beams from the original hotel. Offering a total of seven rooms, the suite features two spacious bedrooms each with their own marble finished bathroom, whirlpool, steam shower and sauna. The classically appointed dining room is below the living room in a circular tower room and can be served from the nearby kitchen. The suite has an antique grand piano in the foyer, while the library is ideal for reading or working in peace and quiet. For amazing views of Zurich, the lake and the Alps, the suite features a large balcony with stunning views, as well as an outdoor roof patio, accessed from one of the bedrooms.
