Nestled in the sleepy alpine village of Andermatt, 4747 ft above sea level, in the Swiss Alps lies this ultra-luxe resort. While The Chedi Andermatt has the same sloping pitched roof as the traditional houses next door, this isn’t your typical chalet. The Chedi Andermatt is far more extravagant; think glittering chandeliers, glossy dark wood finishes, and warm glowing fireplaces in every corner (there are over 200 throughout the hotel).
Of the 119 elegant rooms, the Furka Suite is one of the most impressive. In keeping with the rest of the property the room has a stylish East meets West aesthetic with a striking color palette in hues of black, deep red, and chocolate.
The 3,552-sq-ft suite boasts three spacious rooms, an expansive living area with a cozy fire, and a large balcony overlooking the mountains. Our favorite feature, however, is the private spa. After a long day on the icy slopes, warm up in the sauna or steam bath before relaxing with a glass of bubbly in the in-suite jacuzzi. The suite also has a generously stocked wine cabinet and lovely assortment of Acqua di Parma toiletries in the enormous bathroom.
When you can bring yourself to step foot outside your suite, there are some excellent dining options at The Chedi Andermatt. The star of the show is the Michelin-starred The Japanese Restaurant. Guests can also take the Gutsch Express cable car up 7,500 ft to its mountaintop outpost, The Japanese by The Chedi Andermatt, to dine with breathtaking views of the Andermatt mountains.
It’s also well worth spending a lazy afternoon in the hotel’s 25,000-sq-ft spa where you’ll enjoy access to Switzerland’s largest hotel indoor pool dotted with loungers, a Finnish sauna, and an outdoor heated pool – the best place to soak up the mountain views. Therapists are on hand to carry out an array of treatments from hot stone massages to full body scrubs.
Of course, The Chedi Andermatt is in the perfect spot for hitting the slopes. If you visit in the winter months there are ski butlers ready to arrange transport to the valley stations and even warm your ski boots.
