Abu Dhabi Marina

By Chris Boyle

Yas Marina

Benefiting from access to over 250 miles of stunning coastline, 200 islands off its shores, beautiful cobalt waters and opportunities for clear ocean sailing, Abu Dhabi is ideally positioned to attract superyacht owners from around the world.

The emirate already boasts some world-class facilities and is in the early phases of a long-term plan to build almost 50 new marinas. The launch of the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show, the Middle East’s only show dedicated to superyachts, further boosted Abu Dhabi’s nautical credentials. The show will be held for the third time in March 2011 and holds a firm place in the superyachting calendar as a must-attend event.

YAS MARINA & YACHT CLUB

Located at the heart of Yas Island, Yas Marina’s berths are adjacent to the Yas Marina Circuit.

The region’s latest superyacht marina, it has capacity for 143 yachts, including 70 berths for yachts of over 82 feet. Superyachts of up to 492 feet can be accommodated on a 656- foot pontoon outside the marina. Set to be one of the premier marinas globally, it offers luxury yacht owners direct access to the Yas Yacht Club, an exclusive enclave at the entrance to the marina, and The Yas Hotel, which offers fabulous eateries and nightlife. The marina also presents the ideal viewing platform for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Yas Island is fast becoming a premier yachting destination providing full service, state-of-the-art mooring facilities and projected capacity for about 1,500 yachts.

EMIRATES PALACE MARINA

Emirates Palace’s new marina is one of Abu Dhabi’s most prestigious yachting destinations.

In a private bay, on the western side of the magnificent hotel, the marina moors 186 boats of up to 199 feet, with a separate area to berth eight superyachts. A second phase will take the capacity to 205 yachts, including the ability to berth mega yachts of up to 531 feet. Hans Olbertz, General Manager of Emirates Palace, commented on the marina development: “It really is the ideal spot, with Emirates Palace as the spectacular background to the view from your yacht. …We have opulent hotels, fine dining restaurants and championship golf courses that elite travelers are seeking, and what better way of experiencing the F1 Grand Prix than mooring your yacht at Emirates Palace and then taking a trip to Yas Island on your boat to watch all the action
