Marinas on the Italian Riviera and Tuscan Archipelago

By Chris Boyle

MARINA GENOVA AEROPORTO, GENOA

overhead

Maximum length: 295ft (90m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 96

Draft: 39ft (12m)

As the name might suggest, Marina Genova Aeroporto is located next to Genoa’s airport and is therefore a popular option for those who want to simply transfer from plane to yacht with minimal hassle.

The marina opened in 2007 with its own mini village, which offers many shops and restaurants in addition to all the services a yacht might need before embarking on a nine-day cruise. Furthermore, all the attractions of Genoa’s town center lie only a 20 minute car journey away.

MARINA DI PUNTA ALA

Maximum length: 92ft (28m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 8

Draft: 15ft (4.5m)

The quiet marina of Punta Ala is home to a very active yacht club, Yacht Club Punta Ala, which hosts regattas throughout the year.

While offshore waters are perfect for competitive sailing, the harbor is quiet and well sheltered with a northern entrance. The immediate coastline has been awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness, guaranteeing some of the Tyrrhenian’s cleanest water and finest beaches

MARINA PORTO ANTICO

Maximum length: 213ft (65m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 45

Draft: 49ft (15m)

Located near to Genoa’s old town, this picturesque marina has taken the best characteristics of the old dockyard and revamped them into a modern district that has been attracting a fine selection of boats since 2000.

Along with all modern marina facilities the highlights of Genoa are only a short walk

MARINA DI PORTOFINO

Maximum length: 180ft (55m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 4

Draft: 15ft (4.5m)

Portofino’s harbor is its premier attraction, so no excuse is needed to tie up in Marina di Portofino, arguably one of the most famous small harbors in the world.

But because of this and with barely four spaces for superyachts it is advisable to book your slot very early. Alternatively, there is the nearby harbor of Santa Margherita Ligure that lies only a few miles away.

MARINA DI PORTOFERRAIO

Maximum length: 230ft (70m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 30

Draft: 16ft (5m)

The largest marina of the Tuscan Archipelago is amazingly subdued, even though it boasts all the standard marina facilities.

It is located in the same ancient harbor that has previously hosted Greeks, Ligurians, Romans, Pisans and probably even Napoleon himself when he came to be exiled on the island. Moor your yacht at the ancient quay and watch the slow pace of life carry on around you.

MARINA MOLO VECCHIO

Maximum length: 492ft (150m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 53

Draft: 36ft (11m)

As Marina Molo Vecchio is located in the oldest harbor area in Genoa right in the heart of the old town, staying here would suit those not wanting to miss out on the city’s great sights before departure.

The immediate area surrounding the marina has recently been redeveloped and now includes numerous cafes, restaurants and shops.

PORTO DI VIAREGGIO

Maximum length: 230ft (70m)

Number of berths over 80ft (24m): 175

Draft: 13ft (4m)

Those who are into their superyachts will know Viareggio as the home of several of Europe’s top superyacht yards, including Perini Navi and Azimut-Benetti.

You can therefore expect a fully equipped marina with every service available. This marina is the perfect base from which to travel inland to some of the more famous Tuscan towns, such as Lucca, Pisa or Florence.

MARINA CALA GALERA

Maximum length: 164ft (50m)

Draft: 20ft (6m)

Marina Cala Galera is a modern touristic port adjacent to the Porto Ercole’s own historic harbor.

It has ample infrastructure to service superyachts and is perfect for excursions to other spots on the Argentario peninsula, including the popular Porto San Stefano and Il Pellicano Hotel, approximately 20 and 10 minutes drive respectably.
