Lalique Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

By Theodora Halstead

Lalique may primarily be known for its fine crystalware, but the heritage brand has also succeeded in applying its artisanal skills and intuitive sense of l’art de vivre elsewhere. The company first moved into the hotel world in 2015 with the opening of Villa René Lalique in Alsace, followed by Château Hochberg in 2016. Lalique Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey brings the boutique collection up to three. Transforming this historic wine estate in Sauternes — marking the 400th anniversary with its June 2018 opening — the hotel sits amid the region’s verdant vines. Swiss architect Mario Botta added a modern extension to the 17th-century building and Lady Tina Green and Pietro Mingarelli, who created the Lalique Maison collection, artfully styled its interiors. From the sparkling decanters that embellish the library to the crystal panels enhancing the hallway, Lalique designs inspired by the estate’s vines decorate each elegant space.
