Hervé Léger by Max Azria

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Hervé Léger unequivocally equals short, body con bandage dresses—it’s the reason the show’s front row harbored starlets like Mischa Barton and Hilary Duff—but for spring 2010 the brand has shifted focus to a softer version of its curve hugging minis. Intricate detailing like crochet, beading and cording placed an unexpected focus on surface details and exhibited an ambition to expand the possibilities of its signature silhouette. Mottled batik and tie-dye prints, plus soft shades of cream, peach and softly shimmering metallics gave the collection a feeling that was romantic rather than full-on bombshell. That softer sentiment was underscored by a series of dresses and skirts with swishy flaired hems that will expand the collection’s reach even to those without gym-perfected bodies.
