Milan, Italy—Loro Piana, the Italy-based luxury goods design house that is also the largest cashmere manufacturer, revealed here today its next innovation in fabric. By manufacturing silk and cashmere threads that are thinner and tighter than ever, the company is now crafting a group of incredibly light yet strong knits that are its most cloud-like yet, and calling them “Cashmere Lightest.” The menswear items were displayed to retailers and the press during men’s fashion week in Milan, and will arrive in stores for the spring/summer 2009 season. The standout pieces in the collection include a wrinkle-proof knit bomber, “Soulfly,” which weights just 400 grams; the multi-pocketed sportcoat style “Voyager Jacket,” weighing in at just 460 grams; and ultra-fine v-necks, polos and cardigans (170 grams) that will layer easily under other garments and feel marvelous on the skin. Heather gray and navy are key colors for the pieces, with accents such as apple green brightening up the season. www.loropiana.com.
