V Australia, a subsidiary of Virgin Blue, and affiliate of Virgin Atlantic, will add a second U.S. route March 1 2009 from Brisbane to Los Angeles three times a week. The new long-haul carrier from Down Under will start its first U.S. route from Sydney to Los Angeles December 15 and plans to operate its third long-haul route, from Sydney to Johannesburg starting in October 2009, according to Phil Squires, Manager, Sales and Distribution, US.

The airline will offer a “boutique” business class cabin with only 35 fully flat bed seats in a 2x2x2 configuration aboard its fleet of Boeing 777. Roundtrip fares from the U.S. to Australia will be approximately $15,000.
