Some watches have become true icons in time, and it is often difficult to reinvent them. IWC had no problems with the newest Portugieser Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph, though, because it deftly combined the classic beauty of this legendary watch with fine mechanics. The automatic movement incorporates a mechanical chronograph with hours and minutes display at 12:00 for timing of events, a constantly rotating flying tourbillon at 6:00, and a retrograde date display in arched format on the dial. The hand counts the days and at the end of the month — no matter how many days are in the month — the hand jumps back to 1 to start its process again. The rich blue dial is reminiscent of the sea. Just 50 pieces will be made.
