The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) launched its new promotional campaign and tourism route, “Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean,” on Monday with a fashion show at La Amada Hotel in Playa Mujeres, Cancun.

The event featured world renowned international designers like Spain’s Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Mexico’s Pineda Covalin, David Salomon, Daniel Espinosa and Erika Flores, who all joined together to present the best of their spring-summer collections, using the beauty of Cancun as a backdrop.

Taking place from February 28 to March 6, 2010, the campaign’s launch was attended by state and local officials. After the show, world-class chefs were invited to showcase the wide array of gastronomic delights Cancun and the “Treasures of the Caribbean” have to offer, with dishes ranging from the traditional tikinxic style fish and lobster pizza, to elaborate international gourmet plates. Cancun chefs such as John Gray, Federico Lopez, Alain Grimond, Heriberto Gomez, Cristian Morales and Juan Garcia showcased some of their most recognized culinary creations in a special sampling dinner.

The most popular tourism destination in Mexico and Latin America is adding to its sun, beach, and nightlife offerings by creating a unique five-day route that will offer visitors a chance to experience adventure and interaction with nature. The campaign is aimed at inviting travelers to discover the vast natural, cultural and gastronomical cultures of Puerto Morelos and the four islands of the Mexican Caribbean: Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Contoy and Cozumel.

This tourism route combines the best of each place: Swimming with whale sharks in Holbox, diving in the world’s second largest barrier reef in Cozumel, reliving ancient pirate history in Isla Mujeres, enjoying a colorful sanctuary of birds in Contoy Island and exploring the world’s most extensive underground river system in Puerto Morelos are just a few of the experiences that can be enjoyed when visiting Cancun and the Caribbean.

According to Jesus Almaguer, Director of the Cancun CVB, approximately $500,000 will be invested this year in promoting these tourism routes throughout international tourism trade shows, to attract a premier class of tourists and increase the average stay in the Mexican Caribbean from five to seven nights.

The Cancun CVB highlighted that some of the main companies specializing in adventure tourism will also participate in the program for the launching of this route and will show journalists the assorted range of activities that can be done in its destinations, which are capable of astounding the most extreme adventure enthusiasts and delighting them with the most representative settings of Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean.
