Vamizi Island, Mozambique- Reported by Emily Misencik for Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Luxury and adventure await travelers on the secluded Vamizi Island, located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Although Vamizi is one of the largest islands in the Quirimbas Archipelago, the island contains only one lodge, resulting in ultimate privacy. In addition to the luxury accommodations and setting, Vamizi contains one of the largest turtle conservation operations in the world and is known for its diverse dives in the pristine coral reef. Guests will have the trip of a lifetime on Vamizi Island, experiencing a range of activities and amenities only available on the African island.
The Lodge on Vamizi Island opened in 2005 and contains 13 one or two-bedroom timber-villas. The secluded villas are strategically positioned 230 feet apart and are located just 98 feet from the beach. Each villa contains a deck overlooking the beach, allowing a gentle sea breeze to enter through the latticed windows. The island also features three private five-bedroom villas, perfect for large families. These particular villas are even more secluded and were designed by a well-known African architect with a smart yet laid-back African motif.
Guests on Vamizi Island will also experience cuisine created from Mozambique-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and surf-fresh seafood highlighted with premium wines from South Africa. Dinner is served in the lantern lit main dining room or on the beach with a relaxed buffet lunch option available on the south side of the island. Guests can also opt for a ‘shipwrecked’ picnic on a remote, secluded beach.
Vamizi Island boasts impeccable diving sites, including Neptune’s Arm, voted one of the world’s top dive sites. The “must see” site is only a short boat ride from The Lodge, making the underwater island filled with colorful sea life highly accessible to guests. Other activities include blue water game fishing, humpback whale sighting in season, snorkeling, sailing, lagoon kayaking, nature walks, face and body treatments, a full range of massage therapies and yoga.
Rates at Vamizi Island Lodge start at $590 per person. The Private Villas start at $490 per person based on eight persons sharing for six nights.
