The Spain is Culture website has announced a cultural program of events taking place in the country, including photography exhibitions, music festivals and parades.
Reproductibilitat 1.0, taking place at Es Baluard Museum, Palma Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art until March 16, 2014, is a photography exhibition featuring a collaboration of collectors, public institutions and international artists.
The Spanish Royal Academy is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year with a program of special exhibitions and activities until November, which will be an opportunity to discover more about the Academy’s history, tradition and evolution.
The program includes the ‘Language and the Word. Three Hundred Years of the Spanish Royal Academy’ exhibition, set up in the Spanish National Library, and the ‘The Face of Letters’ photo exhibition, which will show the image of writers and members of the academy. Visit www.rae.es to find out more.
In the new year, Spain’s oldest parade, ‘Three Kings Parade’, will take place in Alcoy. Held since 1885 on the Sunday prior to January 6, the feast of the epiphany, the parade follows a series of events in the build up to the grand finale: the moment when the Three Wise Men make their spectacular entry into Alcoy, riding camels and loaded with presents.
Also in January, the Canary Islands Music Festival will be taking place simultaneously on the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, as well as on stages around the other islands. The only European festival to be held in winter, thanks to the islands’ excellent climate, the festival will host concerts by top-level international artists, both orchestras and soloists. It takes place from January 13 until February 14.
