This September Burberry will be introducing a monogramming service for the AW14 ponchos and heritage scarves, allowing you to create a truly bespoke piece.
The poncho, a key trend for this season since being seen on the AW14 Prorsum runway, comes in a wide range of colors, patterns and fabrics influenced by archival and modern designs. They feature graphic geometric patterns, lead and thistle motifs and the classic House check overlaid with bold blocks of color. They are available for both men and women.
Cut as a simple square with a front slit, the poncho is easy and comfortable to wear. The poncho sits over the shoulders and falls asymmetrically over the body, leaving the arms to move freely.
Already spotted on the likes of Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse and Rosie Huntington-Whitely, the poncho is made from a wool-cashmere blend. The materials complement the relaxed, textural mood of the collection.
Burberry has a long history of capes and blankets dating back to as early as the 1880s. Originally the designs were created for activities such as shooting, motoring and cycling. Their warmth, protective quality and ease of wear proved popular, leading blankets to eventually become a part of the Burberry collection in the late 19th century as heavyweight Yorkshire blankets and Alhambra quilts.
Blankets continued to be produced and points throughout the company’s history, ranging from luxurious chenille and silk wraps to camel colored ground blankets.
Iconic trench, camel and red are juxtaposed with deep and saturated shades of Clementine, dark bottle green, inky blue and black.
