With six limited edition timepieces, NOMOS Glashütte is combining fine watchmaking with fundraising to support the Nobel Peace Prize winning organization’s humanitarian aid efforts Glashütte, September 2014. “Charity wherever possible is a duty,” the German Enlightenment philosopher Kant once stated.
We take helping the victims of drought, war, and famine as a duty too. This is why NOMOS Glashütte has been supporting Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) by raising funds through the sale of limited edition timepieces since 2012.
This charitable initiative started in Germany, but has since extended to the USA and UK; each country has two limited edition models, although all six have some features in common. These include an eye-catching red twelve—which is a subtle allusion to Doctors Without Borders—and a special engraving on the sapphire crystal glass back. But the most attractive feature of all is the fact that each one raises a significant sum (100 euros, dollars or pounds respectively) for emergency humanitarian aid.
Doctors Without Borders is responding to emergencies across a wide swath of regions and countries, including in the Central African Republic, Gaza, Iraq, and South Sudan, as well as the Ebola epidemic affecting West Africa. The organization currently has more than 550 staff members involved in the Ebola outbreak response in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
