The Graff Foundation, a UK-based charity that supports philanthropic activities worldwide, is helping to fight Covid-19 in a big way. The foundation, funded by Graff, is donating $1 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
The Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund was set up in April 2020 by the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, at the request of WHO, and is using its financial resources to help the most at-risk countries. The significant donation will assist WHO’s efforts in helping to stop the spread of the global pandemic through tracking the virus, mobilizing resources and making sure care workers and patients are provided with essential supplies and treatment to help combat the disease, as well as aid vaccine and treatment development.
“The challenge presented by the pandemic has had a profound effect on all of us at Graff,” says Francois Graff, Graff CEO and trustee of the Graff Foundation. “As an international business, it has been terrible to witness the speed with which the virus has spread, and the pain and uncertainty it is causing throughout the world. The Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund is a vital tool in the global response to the virus. We are proud to contribute to its life-saving work and support the medical community and key workers who are heroically devoting their lives to caring for others during this global crisis.”
Since the beginning of April, the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund has shipped PPE to 75 countries; supplied nearly 1.8 million diagnostic testing kits to 126 countries; spreads critical medical-based public health information; and supports drug trials and treatments to those worst affected.
President and CEO of the UN Foundation, Elizabeth Cousens says: “Covid-19 is a textbook example of a global problem that requires global cooperation. I thank Graff for their commitment to the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund – it could not be more clear that we need to work together across sectors to fight this pandemic.”
