The flight is booked, the seafront villa confirmed, and the guest list confirmed – the only thing left to do for your next vacation is to build the summer wardrobe. The most important consideration? Swimwear.

Not to be disregarded as an afterthought, swimwear shopping can conjure up all manner of anxieties, from finding the perfect fit to sourcing sun-safe materials. We have selected a range of luxury designer swimwear brands that don’t just offer fun designs and flashy colors, but truly understand what it takes to invoke poolside confidence – from flattering shapes to timeless details that will stand up season after season.

  • Hunza G

Original creators of the now heavily replicated crinkle swimsuit, Hunza G’s one-size swimsuits are made to suit every body. Its signature swimwear comes in a variety of shapes and colorways, but a recent collaboration with Burberry has brought to life this summer’s must-have poolside garment. Available in red, cocoa-brown, or black, each suit features a subtle Burberry-check trim, and comes with a matching bobble.

  • Missoni

Few patterns are as emblematic of a Euro summer than Missoni’s kaleidoscopic chevron. Said pattern is emblazoned across its swimwear collection – from technicolor bikinis to monochrome one pieces. Missoni’s swimwear comes in various shapes to flatter all, and includes high-neck reversible swimsuits, skimpy tie-side bikinis, and plunging v-neck one-pieces.

  • Ulla Johnson

Ulla Johnson’s timeless resortwear line is designed for women looking for swimwear that will remain right on trend, year on year. Its shapes are fun without being overbearing, and include versatile monochrome colorways as well as bolder floral prints – two pieces are sold separately, so make use of the chance to mix and match.

  • Oséree

Founded by a London-based fashion grad duo, Oséree began with swimwear in 2015 but has since expanded into a full-blown resort-wear label. Those swimsuits remain the cornerstone, though, with each design proving that poolside wear need not be boring: there’s entirely sequin-clad bikinis, metallic cut-out one-pieces, and bedazzled two-pieces. This brand is not for the wallflowers.

  • La Double J

Swimwear might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of La Double J – but the maximalist Italian brand does a great line in zappy bikinis and swimsuits. Versatile shapes, including high necks, full-brief bottoms, and flattering frill shoulders, make La Double J’s swimwear inclusive, and the matching cover ups are very tempting, too.

  • Zimmermann

If there is one nation you can trust with your swimwear, it is the Australians. Zimmerman’s swim and resort collections are vibrant and playful, with a focus on unusual shapes, cuts, and details (we love the flatteringly placed cut-outs and bows). The brand does a good line in versatility too, and you’ll find many pieces come with detachable straps.

  • Marysia

Cute, feminine, and elegant, with a practical edge, too, Marysia swimwear is made for people who actually want to swim, not just lounge. Founded in 2009 by former ballerina and surfer Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves, the line includes the standard bikinis and one-pieces but also super-stylish longsleeve, zip-front rash guards, excellent for both optimum sun protection and to prevent wetsuit chafing. Marysia’s signature scallop edge is featured on every design.

  • Marina Rinaldi

Especially designed for plus-size bodies, Italian label Marina Rinaldi prioritizes support, stretch, and comfort in its swimwear. The small but well-executed range includes various colorways and patterns, and there’s an extensive selection of accompanying resort wear for that full beach look. Note that Marina Rinaldi’s range only includes one-piece swimsuits – look elsewhere for jazzy bikinis and separates.
