Britain’s Best Luxury Easter Escapes

By Alex Martin

With Easter falling late in April this year, the benefit for the United Kingdom is that spring will be in full force by the time celebrations begin. Few things are better than the UK in full bloom, so Elite Traveler has assembled a select number of hotels and residences that will allow you to experience an unforgettable Easter weekend.

The Samling

The Lake District

Nowhere in England is seasonal change more dramatic than in the Lake District. Following a winter of snow-capped peaks and constant drizzle, this Unesco World Heritage site will burst back into life just as Easter arrives. The Samling, a luxury hotel situated on the banks of Lake Windermere, is the perfect place to absorb the fresh spring air. Set on 67 acres of land, The Samling is perfectly situated to explore the Lake District’s quaint villages and wonderful fells. The grounds behind the hotel are filled with wildlife, including endangered red squirrels, deer and even birds of prey.  After a long day of exploration, guests can unwind in spacious rooms and dine in the award-winning restaurant.

Rosewood Hotel

The luxury London hotel, located in the heart of High Holborn, has constructed an Easter extravaganza fit for both sophisticated couples and families. For those wishing to feast on fine foods, there is an afternoon tea inspired by artist Vincent van Gough. Head pastry chef Mark Perkins has curated the entire menu based on the famous painter, whose British-inspired work is currently on display at the Tate. The afternoon tea concludes with three show-stopping desserts based on some of Van Gough’s most famous works. Continuing in the same theme, guests are also invited to observe a special Easter egg modeled on Van Gough’s Sunflowers. Meanwhile, children can partake in an Easter egg hunt in the hotel’s famous courtyard.

The Van Gough Afternoon Tea is priced at $157 per person

The house, which comfortably accommodates 16 guests, is ideally placed away from the busy tourist traps and enjoys direct access to hundreds of miles of footpaths. Walk through the nearby orchard and into the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Brendon Hill and enjoy an Easter lunch at a traditional English pub.

Fife Arms

Braemar, Scotland

Reopened in January following an extensive refurbishment, The Fife Arms can already count royalty among its illustrious list of guests. Prince Charles and wife Camilla were present for the official opening, but they are unlikely to be the last royal couple to visit – the queen herself visits Braemar every year for the annual Braemar Games. The 46-bedroom property has won critical acclaim across the board for its 12,000 pieces of art and antiques, which were meticulously selected by owners, who also run art galleries. The hotel is situated in the stunning Cairngorms National Park, making it the perfect location to explore the Scottish Highlands. The Royal Suite offers unrivaled views of the surrounding area and includes a separate sitting area and free standing copper bathtubs.
