The stage is set at Corinthia Hotel London for a series of theatrical performances, entitled Above and Beyond, by immersive theater specialists, Look Left Look Right.
From March 18 until April 14, 2013, the winners of Corinthia Artist in Residence 2013 will take audiences on a journey of intrigue and suspense.
Taking place against the backdrop of a fully operational hotel, the Look Left Look Right team encourages the traditionally passive audience member to be open minded and willing as they take on the role of the protagonist. Each participant will be guided through a number of one-on-one encounters and experiences throughout the hotel from the soaring dome of the Lobby Lounge and Victorian Ballroom to the previously unseen back of house areas.
There will be 24 performances a night with individuals taking part in approximately 15 scenes lasting anything from ten seconds to seven minutes long. The play will last around 70 minutes for each participant.
The theater company’s Artistic Director Mimi Poskitt and writers Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and Katie Lyons have now taken up residence at Corinthia London for a month to produce their creative vision. During their residency they will gather historic stories from the building’s past life as the Ministry of Defence and glamorous Hôtel Métropole to build the layered narrative of the interactive play that captures the hotel’s beauty and vibrant past.
Look Left Look Right were selected for the prestigious Corinthia residency from an impressive array of entrants by the esteemed panel of judges including some of the UK’s leading voices in the theatre scene such as The Donmar Warehouse’s Josie Rourke, The Bush Theatre’s Madani Younis and Dan Stevens, actor of Downton Abbey fame.
The Corinthia Artist in Residence is a unique annual initiative which champions British nurtured talent within different disciplines of the arts. 2012 saw photographic artist Noémie Goudal create three large scale pieces of work under the brief of ‘Unknown Views’ for display in the hotel.
