Spa of the Week: The Spa at Sun Valley Resort

Ski season may be coming to a close but there’s no better time to head out West to enjoy all of the springtime activities that Sun Valley Resort in Ketchum, Idaho has to offer, including the 20,000 sq-ft spa.

Every inch of the palatial Spa at Sun Valley Lodge (part of Sun Valley Resort) has alpine-chic decor and special details such as tiger-grained anigre wood, gorgeous chandeliers and granite fireplaces. Upon entering, the natural-light-filled lobby will restore a sense of calm. There are 15 special treatment rooms, a full-service salon as well as men’s and women’s locker rooms and relaxation lounges, each containing a sauna and steam room. Guests of the spa have access to the year-round outdoor heated pool and hot tub surrounded by pine trees.

We suggest booking the Himalayan Salt Stone massage. Using salt stones, your massage therapist will relieve any tension and inflammation in the body. Supplement this with a bathing ritual, such as the aromatic Alpine Arnica Soothing Soak. This bathing treatment combines arnica, camphorous, rosemary, basil and bay laurel for a deep relaxation treatment. Ingredients are sourced from Alpine meadows so you’ll feel connected to the local surroundings. After your treatment, head to The Poolside Café near the outdoor heated pool overlooking Bald Mountain while you enjoy a light lunch.

Come summer, the spa (which was renovated just three years ago) will introduce new wellness-focused treatments, nutritional culinary classes, fitness classes and customized spa services. Yearly and three-month memberships are also available.

Though the spa accepts non-hotel guests for a daily cost, spend a night (or two) enjoying the sumptuous lodgings at Sun Valley Resort.
