The Hollywood Roosevelt Debuts Makeover of Penthouse Suites

Like a true Hollywood icon, the Penthouse Suites have undergone a facelift – and are ready to party.

By Ellys Woodhouse

The Hollywood Roosevelt is a Golden Era icon in every sense of the word. Seductive, glamorous and full to the rafters with drama, it has mingled with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin and is unafraid of the odd facelift.

Following an extensive renovation in 2022, the historic Los Angeles hotel has recently debuted its latest new look, focusing on its signature suites. As though just in time for awards season, the Hollywood Roosevelt has unveiled the dramatic transformation of its Penthouse Suites, the Gable and Lombard Penthouse and the Johnny Grant Apartment, each redesigned with entertaining in mind.

Named after the stars who each made their stays in their prospective rooms permanent, the Hollywood Roosevelt hopes its penthouse suites will host today’s VIPs and also encourage them to follow suit. Not only have LA-based Kevin Klein Design crafted the interiors as premier hotel accommodations but it is also hoped that they will serve as standalone apartments suitable for extended stays.

With maximized common spaces and the ability to combine the suites, there’s even the option for a complete buyout of both suites, leaving guests with access to Hollywood’s most iconic rooftop all to themselves.

As well as creating the perfect party pad fit for the entertaining elite, the design team set out to honor the history and original glamour of the suites’ opulent home. There are the typical tokens of luxury – the use of rich Italian marble, stained walnut and oak wall paneling and hand-painting ceiling murals – but there are also more subtle nods to the hotel’s story. Antique furniture and decor have been curated from more than 25 countries around the world, with some pieces dating back more than 200 years.

Between the two apartments, the Gabel and Lombard Penthouse stretches to cover slightly more ground at 2,100 sq ft. With two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and an additional powder room, this room is destined to become one of the most iconic entertaining venues in LA. An exquisite sunken living room sits below a 20-ft vaulted ceiling, featuring a hand-painted mural dating back to the 1920s.

Meanwhile, the Johnny Grant Apartment is more suited for guests looking for a place to set more established roots. At 2,000 sq ft, the grand one-bedroom suite includes three powder rooms, a private office study, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room that can seat up to 16 guests.

Pricing starts at $6,000 a night and is available for booking after February 15 – meaning while the rooms may have just missed out on Valentine’s Day, someone at the Oscars (which are hosted at the Dolby Theatre just over the road) is in for a lucky night, win or lose.
