Acapulco, Mexico – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
This November, Acapulco’s seventh annual International Film Festival opened with a bang: Ever-glamorous Italian actress Sophia Loren, along with French actor Alain Delon, launched the festivities in the gorgeous coastal destination.
Mexico draws its fair share of celebrities, to hot spot Los Cabos, idyllic Riviera Maya, and many places in between, including Acapulco – a perennially classic Mexican beach retreat, popular with Mexico City’s local elite as well as international travelers. Its film festival showcases and celebrates the year’s top releases, against Acapulco’s stunning landscape and rich cultural history.
Loren, an Oscar winner who has collaborated with many of Hollywood’s iconic greats (think Gregory Peck and Charles Heston), said, “This is the first time I have been in Acapulco and truthfully it is a wonderful place.” She continued, “Unfortunately I do not have much time to see the area but I feel at home…I’m very happy to be here, it’s a long journey and I don’t like flying, but it’s worth it.”
This year, the festival kicked off with a screening of the new film The Descendants, starring George Clooney, and also featured a tribute to the iconic Mexican actor, Mario Moreno Cantinflas. In attendance were film aficionados from all over the world.
