Gucci has unveiled its latest menswear collection in Milan.

Under the newly elected creative director Alessandro Michele, the collection included silk blouses, lace shirts and monogrammed trench coats, leaning towards and noticeably softer and more romantic approach.

A selection of designs also appeared to look to Gucci’s history of monogram and G motifs, with floral embroidery applied to an assortment of trench coats and bags, while flared trousers and belted suede jackets paid homage to the 70s.

The designer also tapped into the androgynous trend, with women also modelling some of the menswear designs.

Colors on the runway included buttercup yellow, pink, violet, green and scarlet.

Michele said backstage: “I don’t want be a prisoner of the brand. I wanted to incorporate aspects of the old into the show but give them new meaning.”

He attributed the theme of gender ambiguity to the youth of today, adding: “dressing up can give you the possibility to express anything that you want to be.”
