Harley Davidson Delivers Blast of Power for 2016

By Zahra Al-Kateb

MY16 Web Shoot. S Models. INTERNATIONAL ONLYHarley Davidson’s 2016 line up will feature motorcycles of more power.

The most powerful lineup of cruiser models ever includes the new S Series Fat Boy S and Softail Slim S powered by the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 100 Engine, with more power and new features across the entire Softail and Dyna model range in 2016.

“Our engineers will tell you one of the best predictors of motorcycle acceleration is the power-to-weight ratio,” said Paul James, Harley-Davidson Director of Motorcycle Product Planning. “It’s something you can’t see on a dyno sheet, but you will feel it when you twist the throttle. We’ve put more power in our Big Twin cruisers for 2016, without adding weight, in a keep-them-lean and make-them-mean approach to delivering the performance riders are asking for.”

The Screamin’ Eagle performance was once only reserved for Custom Vehicle Operations. However it is has now been made available in regular production motorcycles for the very first time. The Limited Edition Fat Boy S and Softail S models both feature the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110, an engine tuned to make up to 109lb. ft. of torque. Built for riders who want to stand out, the S Series has been redesigned with minimal bright work and boasts electronic cruise control, ABS, and H-D Factory Security Systems as standard equipment.

The 2016 range boasts clean and sophisticated styling, from the clipped rear fender to the Hollywood handlebars. The S Series ups the performance with the gloss black Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 powertrain featuring the Screamin’ Eagle Stage 1 high-flow intake and optimized jet-black over/under dual shotgun mufflers, with all chrome being replaced by glossy black paint. The Softail Slim is now offered in Vivid Black or the new Olive Gold Denim color, paying homage to military tanks.

Model Year 2016 New Model Photography“While the Olive Gold paint and star graphic are reminiscent of the WLA military models Harley-Davidson built during World War II, the Softail Slim S pays homage to the post-war chop-ups made from those bikes after the war,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Director of Styling. “Those garage customs started the bobber era that continues to inspire our styling team today.”

The Fat Boy S boasts a darker attitude in the S Series, with a menacing jet black look that perfectly matches the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 Engine.

“When we started styling the Fat Boy S we took it completely black, and then we pulled it back a little until our gut told us it was right,” said Richards. “We kept the highlights on the wheels and the tank badge, but this is still the darkest Fat Boy ever.”
