New Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Targa 4 For 2016

By Zahra Al-Kateb

Autodesk VRED Professional 2016Porsche have reveled that the new 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Targa 4 will boast more efficiency and greater sprinting power next year.

The increase in sporting characteristics include innovative turbo charged engines which are more powerful and consume less while the improved four wheel drive will increase dynamics and driving safety. The adaptive PASM chassis (Porsche Active Suspension Management) with its ten millimeter lower ride height helps enable an even greater spread between sporty circuit and relaxed long distance driving. The dynamic spectrum is also considerably increased largely thanks to the rear axle steering on the Carrera 4S models.

P15_0941_a4_rgbThe new 911 Carrera generation also features its own individual distinguishing characteristics, including the light strip between the rear lights which produce their own special effect thanks to its unique three dimensional design.

The 911 Targa also boasts an array of sophisticated visual developments. Much like the original Targa, it has the distinctive wide bar in place of B pillars, a removable roof and a wrap around rear window without C pillars.

P15_0939_a4_rgbThe all new 911 Carrera boasts faster sprinting with up to 12% less fuel consumption. Thanks to bi-turbo charging, the three-liter six cylinder engines in the 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Targa 4 achieve an output of 370hp and a toque of 450Nm, while the S models increase to 420hp and torque to 500Nm.

Showcasing more than four decades of Porsche experience with turbocharged engines, the new 911 Carrera impresses with its performance, driving and efficiency.

The new models now boast a mode switch on the steering wheel for the first time – a feature which has been derived from the 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. Consisting of a rotary ring, it features four positions for driving modes, namely Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. The latter setting allows drivers to configure their own individual vehicle set up.

P15_0934_a4_rgbThe active rear-axle steering available as an option for the Carrera S marks the adoption of chassis technology, from the 911 Turbo and 911 GT3, increasing the turn in agility. This leads to even higher driving stability when changing lanes at high speeds, ensuring greater maneuver ability in city traffic thanks to the 0.4 meter reduction in turning circle.

P15_0935_a4_rgbPorsche also provides a hydraulic lift system with integrated lifting cylinders in the struts of the front axle. By pressing a button the ground clearance is increased at the front spoiler lip by 40 millimeters within five seconds thus preventing the vehicle underbody from hitting the ground (e.g. when negotiating a steep garage exit).

Finally, fitted in as standard is the new PCM Connectivity and infotainment system, which boasts a seven inch format. Also fitted as standard is the navigation system that can be operated like a smart phone and even boasts the capability to process handwritten input. Drivers can also access real time traffic information, while smart phones can be integrated more quickly and seamlessly than before via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cable.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Targa 4 will be launched in Germany from the end of January 2016.
