Suzanne Kalan knows her way around jewelry. She’s been designing jewelry for more than 20 years and she’s surrounded by it. Her father owned a jewelry store and her husband is a diamond setter.
“I’ve always had an interest in designing jewelry,” says Suzanne. “But it was mostly for my family. One day, I was standing in a building waiting for the elevator when the owner of the jewelry store in the lobby approached me. He asked me where I had gotten the jewelry I was wearing. They were my own designs and he placed an order right then and there. That was the moment I realized I needed to pursue my interest in fine jewelry.”
Clearly that was a smart decision and the start of a sparkling relationship. Suzanne finds that nature influences most of her designs. “The beautiful colors of the sun and the sea inspire me. As soon as I sit down and clear my mind, the designs just come to me.”
Suzanne prefers to design in 18-karat gold with precious and semi-precious stones. “I love incorporating colorful gemstones like topaz and amethysts.”
Her designs have been described as adding a modern twist to traditional designs, clearly evident in her Fireworks collection that marries the chaos of scattered baguette diamonds with large custom-cut gemstones. Her other collections run the gamut of luxury: Luminous Color Collection, Luxe Stack, Opulent Elegance, Ultimate Classics and Vitrine, through to the unique One and Only Collection.

Suzanne’s love of color and large scale are evident in her jewelry, a trait she’s passed along to her daughter Patile, who now works with her. Patile was integral in building the KALAN by Suzanne Kalan Collection. The new collection features 14-karat gold with an array of hand-packed semi-precious stones with diamond and sapphire accents. It’s a modern twist to affordable fine jewelry, rendering it both ‘hip and traditional’ with an elegance all its own.
Patile describes it simply. “I want the woman who wears my designs to be able to wear it today, tomorrow and twenty years from now.
Suzanne and Patile continue to expand the Suzanne Kalan brand all over the world through innovation, quality and stunning designs. The company is based in Northridge, CA and produces and manufactures all her jewelry in-house.
