A fantastic list of participants, highlighted by 19 players ranked amongst the ATP top 100, have gathered in the Baja California Sur, Mexico resort destination of Los Cabos, for the first edition of the Mexican Tennis Open. The tournament runs from August 8 – 13, 2016.
The list was led by ATP’s young sensation, Dominic Thiem (AUT), currently ranked 8th in the Emirates ATP Rankings, who unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. Three great French players top an impressive draw: Benoit Paire (number 23), Lucas Pouille (number 30) and Julien Benneteau (number 39) join the fight for the title along with the already confirmed players Feliciano López, Ivo Karlovic, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Sam Querrey, Jeremy Chardy, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Marcel Granollers and Nicolas Almagro. All of whom are ranked inside the ATP top 50!
With one of the four top purses in the ATP 250 category, the Los Cabos Mexican Open will be the only ATP tournament to be played in the world that will grant Emirates ATP Ranking Points as well as $800,000 USD in prize money.
The fact that Los Cabos International Airport offers direct connections to over 40 destinations was highly beneficial to the tournament’s success. This great connectivity allows players and visitors to travel to Cabo simply and comfortably. The Organizing Committee is truly satisfied with the players’ response to the tournament. Being able to present a solid and attractive draw, assures a week of spectacular tennis in one of the world’s most exciting destinations.
