For its Mademoiselle Privé collection, Chanel looks to the private world and passions of its founder, Gabrielle Chanel. The new Sautoir Coromandel, a one-of-akind timepiece, recalls the objects Gabrielle loved: In her office and home, she had beautiful black Chinese screens decorated with birds and scenes that inspired her.
The dial features miniature, diamond-set, 18K beige gold-sculpted birds, branches and flowers that sit atop a black lacquered dial, all surrounded by a bezel set with 130 brilliant-cut diamonds. The black lacquer is created using Coromandel lacquer techniques that date to the 18th century.
The watch is set on an incredible sautoir made of onyx and brilliant-cut diamonds. Below it hangs an onyx-bead tassel topped with even more diamonds. The caseback of the pendant watch is onyx with a single diamond set in the center, for a total carat weight of 7.62.
Price: $421,000 in 18K beige gold
