While Bulgari continues to set world records for ultra-thin watches, it also takes a new direction honoring Gérald Genta, one of the greatest watch designers of the 20th century. This watch recalls Genta’s famed bi-retrograde complication (minutes and date) with jumping hours. It pays tribute to the year Genta began his own eponymous brand, 1969. Bulgari has owned the Gérald Genta brand since 2000, and it turned to the archives for this watch.
The case is inspired by the Gérald Genta Arena watch of the 1970s, but it has been redesigned with sleeker lugs, a new bezel and caseback, and an updated movement, the BVL 300, with a bidirectional self-winding rotor. The dial is translucent blue lacquer with rhodium and white numerals and hands. The 41mm watch is finished with a blue alligator strap and transparent sapphire caseback.
