Miami Beach, FL – The Sailfish Pro Series was officially announced by Executive Adventures today. The Sailfish Pro Series is a professional sailfishing association bringing together the best-of-the-best in a season-long fight to determine the most competitive, most consistent and ultimate champions of sailfish tournament fishing. A fleet of 20 teams of anglers will compete for the title of Sailfish Pro Series Champion and a $100,000 first place payout.
The Sailfish Pro Series will include five regular season tournaments. The top teams will then advance to a post season fish-off open only to Sailfish Pro Series association members. The regular season will commence with the Sailfish Cup held in Miami Beach, FL, in November and conclude with the World Sailfish Championship out of Key West, FL, in April. Please see the full schedule of tournament events found below.
Teams will be featured on the Series’ website, www.sailfishseries.com and live scoring will follow the Sailfish Pro Series teams through each leg. Sailfish Magazine will run a feature on the Series in the Fall 2008 issue with full coverage of the tournament schedule. The negotiations for national television program rights are currently underway.
“Forty million people in America love to fish. It made sense to create a venue for sportfishing and finally treat it like the major sport it is. The ultimate goal of the Sailfish Pro Series is to promote camaraderie throughout the angler community and further expose the intensity and legitimacy of fishing as a professional sport to a world-wide audience,” says Christopher King, CEO of Executive Adventures.
The Sailfish Pro Series is modeled after the success of the NASCAR Series of races. Teams will earn points for standings in each tournament throughout the regular season. The leader-board will be reset to zero as the top 5 teams and a wild card will advance to the post season fish-off to be held in May 2009.
“As long time participants in competitive sailfishing, my fellow anglers and I have been envisioning the creation of a venue where we can match our skills against one another to finally crown the true champion of world class sailfishing. We are excited to team up with Executive Adventures whose proven organizational and marketing skills will properly showcase the high level of competition and drama that we experience throughout the sailfishing season,” states Scott Robins of
Weez in the Keys.
A Media Day and Kickoff Party will be held at the Bahia Mar during the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. For details on this event please contact Ashley Styers at 727-450-1551.
