Fairmont St.Andrews Offers Scots Heritage Program

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

ST ANDREWS, FIFE, UK – Fairmont St Andrews, a 5-star cliff-top resort in St Andrews, Scotland (the home of golf) is a dream destination for golf enthusiats, and Homecoming Scotland 2009, a Scottish Government Initiative to get ancestral Scots to come to Scotland, presents even more of an opportunity to visit.
Coinciding with the the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’
birth, and celebrating Scottish contributions to golf & whisky the initiative offers ancestral Scots living in North America a great time to explore their roots.

Furthermore, with the recent strengthening of the U.S. Dollar, this once-in-a-lifetime trip is more affordable for U.S. citizens than it has been in years. Since last summer, the exchange rates have improved nearly 25 percent.

“Homecoming Scotland 2009 is a year-long celebration that promotes the culture and heritage of Scotland as a whole, with the Fairmont St Andrews involved in the celebration, there are plenty of activities planned to keep everyone in the family occupied – not just the golf enthusiast,” said Charles Head, general manager of Fairmont St Andrews. “St Andrews is a magical place. If you’ve never been, you simply must come. And, if you haven’t visited in a while, we have plenty of great new experiences waiting for you.”

Perhaps the most spectacular new experience awaiting visitors is the Fairmont St Andrews itself. Fresh from a £17 million enhancement project, the resort which was recently named the Hotel of the Year by Golf Tourism Scotland unveiled their new Kittocks Course and will open their newly remodeled Torrance Course this coming summer. The Torrance Course has already been selected as the final qualifying venue for the 2010 Open Championship.
