La Mamounia – a symbol of traditional Moroccan hospitality for more than 85 years— has proudly joined forces with a few of the world’s most prestigious names in beauty and wellness to launch the much-anticipated Mamounia Spa as part of the grand re-opening of the legendary hotel on September 29th, 2009. Inspired by both Moroccan and Eastern cultures, the 27,000 square-foot Mamounia Spa offers more than 80 treatments, including traditional Moroccan hammam treatments by marocMaroc, as well as holistic body and beauty treatments by SHISEIDO. Inviting guests to experience a journey to wellness in a magical atmosphere, Mamounia Spa features two traditional hammams and one private hammam, eight treatment rooms, a Spa Suite, and six outdoor massage cabanas, as well as, a hair salon by renowned stylist, Jean Michel Faretra Paris, nail treatments by La Ric, a state-of-the-art fitness studio, an indoor ozone swimming pool and Jacuzzi, a relaxation room with catering service and a boutique.
Conceived by internationally acclaimed interior designer, Jacques Garcia, Mamounia Spa pays homage to traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and customs with the use of local materials, such as tile, marble, tadellakt and wood, while incorporating modern design elements. Public spaces allow for the “sharing of beauty secrets” associated with the traditional Moroccan hammam ritual, while private treatment rooms and a Spa Suite, featuring a hammam, hair salon and double treatment room, provide tranquil havens for those who prefer a more intimate spa experience.
Fragrance expert, Olivia Giacobetti, famed as one of the seven ‘noses’ of the world, worked tirelessly to produce a series of scents for La Mamounia. These draw inspiration from local flavors and ingredients such as the fresh date, and are used to fragrance guest amenities and scented candles which flicker throughout the property.
Complementing the Mamounia Spa, the Fitness Pavilion, situated amidst the hotel’s historic 20 acres of gardens, invites guests to tone and revitalize, offering: a yoga, Pilates and aerobic studio; cardio and weight equipment; sauna; plus a heated outdoor ozone pool. Two clay tennis courts are available for guest play and as an exclusive to La Mamounia, international tennis legend, Henri Leconte, is developing the La Mamounia Tennis Academy with additional tennis clinics scheduled throughout the year. Additional exhibition matches, including Henri Leconte with Moroccan and global tennis stars will take place annually at La Mamounia.
