With the appointments of a new Chief Designer, Estrella Archs, and more surprisingly, a new Artistic Advisor, Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan, venerable Parisian fashion label Emanuel Ungaro receives an infusion of new talent.
The eyebrow-raising move is an attempt to attract a younger customer to the House of Ungaro. Spanish-born Archs comes to her new post with an impressive resume that includes a degree from Central Saint Martins in London, stints at Nina Ricci and Emilio Pucci, and even roles working under the artistic direction of both Christian Lacroix and Miuccia Prada.
The position of Artistic Advisor was created specifically for Lohan, whose recent forays into fashion have included designing a line of leggings called 6126, in addition to a television appearance on “Project Runway” as a guest judge. While the decision to hire the young actress—who has spent more time in the public eye defending her reputation than discussing her work in recent years—might seem controversial, that’s exactly what Emanuel Ungaro CEO Mounir Moufarrige had in mind. “Mr. Ungaro’s success was based on his genius for design and his controversial eye to whom his consumer was,” he says, adding, “Lindsay is a world consumer with a clear eye for fashion.”
The pair will show off their first collaboration for the label with the Spring/Summer 2010 showing, which debuts October 4 during Paris Fashion Week. Visit www.ungaro.com for more information.
