Select from one-of-a-kind massage treatments based on Mayan mysticism and lore on the Journey Through Native Mexico. On Travels through India, experience the benefits of healing herbs in Ayurvedic-inspired treatments. Or try a sumptuous Honey Melt Scrub, Olive-Clay Wrap, and Spain’s most luxe skin-care service, all on the Mediterranean Voyage.
These creative treatments are part of the international spa menu at the Spa Grand Velas Riviera Maya, which features Seven Journeys, each one a collection dedicated to a renowned spa culture.
Each thematic Journey-such as Nature’s Aromatherapy Trail, World Travels, and Inner Journey-includes approximately five treatments that best represent these spa-going traditions. The Men’s Journey and the Rainbow Journey for children and teen (ages 6 – 15 years old) help these spa-goers easily find a selection of treatments that’s right for them.
Organizing the spa menu treatments according to their spa-culture origins and healing roots was the concept of world-renowned spa consultant Diana Mestre. “The Journeys allows guests to easily pinpoint their treatment preferences and understand where many of these healing practices come from,” says Mestre.
Journey Through Native Mexico
Sacred Obsidian Stone Massage uses warmed obsidian stones that are said to contain healing energy to melt muscle tension. The one-of-a-kind Yaxche Mayan Experience Massage features two therapists whose massage techniques evoke the flutter of butterflies and the padding movements of a jaguar. Coffee Scrub and Xocol-Ha Chocolate Wrap is a luxurious two-part body treatment using raw ingredients native to Mexico.
Travels through India
On this journey guests experience the benefits of holistic healing herbs such as neem and gotu kola in such treatments as the Gotu Kola Age-Defying Firming Facial, Neem and Green Tea Healing Body Wrap, as well as the Shirodhara treatment, which uses warm oil poured over the third-eye and scalp to a profoundly relaxing effect, followed by a Abhyanga four-hand massage.
Inner Journey
A growing category of interest, particularly for spa aficionados, are sessions that address not just the body, but the mind and spirit. Guided Meditation helps balance stress, Private Yoga Instruction is completely customized to the guest’s goals, and Ayurvedic Dosha Analysis determines your constitution and balancing treatments, according to the 5,000-year-old practice.
The $15 million architecturally striking spa at the new Grand Velas All Suites & SPA Resort Riviera Maya is inspired by the jungle and natural water pools of the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexican Architects Ricardo Elias and Alexis Elias of EliasElias AR preserved the stone, plants, and streams specific to the Riviera Maya landscape, and incorporated them into the curved, organic design of the new two-level, 89,000 square-foot spa. The Spa Grand Velas Riviera Maya features 40 treatment rooms and suites complemented with Mexican and Balinese artwork and furnishings. Each treatment (of 50 minutes or more) includes the hour-long Water Journey, a relaxation ritual built around specially designed water-based facilities with a personal spa valet to provide guidance.
