Berlin, Germany — Dubai has made its mark in the travel and tourism industry by creating bigger than life projects. From islands in the sea in the shape of palm leaves and a series of islands set out to appear as a map of the world when seen from the air Dubai often leaves visitors wondering “how did they do that.” The Emirate recently launched the world’s tallest building and for years now it has featured indoor snow ski slopes. So it was fitting that the newest hotel was opened during the world’s largest travel fair, ITB, in Berlin.
The new landmark is The Meydan Hotel, and while not floating in the gulf or setting height marks, the property marks what is believed to be the first hotel in the world set on a championship horse racetrack.
Located less than 10 miles from the city center, the Meydan Racecourse March 27 will host the annual Dubai World Cup race drawing in excess of 60,000 spectators.
Guests at the newly opened The Meydan Hotel will only have to open the doors to their balconies for front row seats. At the pool, guests again will have views to the race track as well as from other public areas and restaurants.
During an exclusive interview with Elite Traveler at ITB, Director of Sales & Marketing Heather Galbraith said she expects the hotel to draw race fans as well as those elite travelers simply looking for a unique experience.
With the upcoming Dubai World Cup she said The Meydan will be of great interest to horse owners who typically arrive in Dubai by private jet and will find the hotel’s location convenient.
The hotel has four suites categories, including Royal, Presidential, Meydan and Panoramic. Galbraith said she expects the hotel will also be a popluar venue for meetings, incentives and groups given its unique location.
