Basel, Switzerland — Building off the original Carrousel watch, introduced in 2008, Blancpain has come out with the new Carrousel Minute Repeater (Carrousel Répétition Minutes Le Brassus). For the first time in history, the watch combines a flying one-minute carrousel with a cathedral gong minute repeater.
The design of the watch, with open dial center and sapphire case back allows a view of the minute repeater mechanism and movement bridges.
The 45mm red gold timepiece with manual winding movement is limited to just 10 and retails for approximately $360,000 USD.
Shown to Elite Traveler during Baselworld, and also new this year is the Carrousel Sapphire timepiece designed by watchmaker Vincent Calabrese.
Featuring the flying one-minute carrousel (which functions like a tourbillon to negate gravity), the 43.5mm timepiece is encased in sapphire crystal on the front, back and side panels so that the skeletonized movement is visible from all angles. All bridges are made of sapphire crystal as well.
Retailing for around $230,000 USD, the timepiece is limited to 50 pieces.
