From July 1 to 8, twenty-three galleries and three auction houses in St. James and Mayfair will collaborate to present a cache of predominantly European paintings at the third annual Master Paintings Week. On exhibit will be masterpieces’ dating from the 15th to 19th centuries, including Alessandro Rosi’s lushly charged Judgment of Paris; Lorenzo di Credi’s stark Saint Antoninus; Antonio Joli’s The Arch of Trajan at Benevento depicting a 16th-century tour group; Francesco Guardi’s Venice, a view of the Rialto Bridge, a minutely detailed image of the city’s frenzied canals; and John Everett Millais’s portrait of a breathtaking beauty in Wedding Cards.
The exhibition coincides with Old Master Sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams, located within walking distance of each other, and Master Drawings London, also being exhibited in the tony neighborhood.
