New York, New York – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Christie’s has revealed details about the first of a four-day series of sales spotlighting Elizabeth Taylor’s private jewelry collection. The late screen siren was almost as well known for her bold baubles as she was for her body of work.
On December 13, 80 of Taylor’s most precious pieces will be presented in a special Evening Sale at Christie’s New York. 189 additional gems will be on offer over two Day Sale sessions the following day. The sale of all 269 pieces in the selection is estimated to achieve over $30 million.
Heralded as one of the world’s most extraordinary private collections, Taylor’s trove includes dazzling diamonds, antique and historic pieces, one-of-a-kind items and many personal mementos and gifts. Standouts include a spectacular 33.19-carat white diamond ring, which Taylor reportedly wore almost every day, with an estimate of $2.5 to $3.5 million.
“Elizabeth Taylor’s passion for jewelry was well-known, but it is her depth of knowledge about fine jewelry that truly impresses,” added International Jewelry Director and president of Christie’s Asia, François Curiel. “From the first time I met her in 1998, it was clear that she possessed an expert’s eye for craftsmanship, rarity, quality and history. She collected the best pieces from the best periods, and as a result her collection boasts exquisite examples from the most celebrated of jewelry designers, including Bulgari, Boucheron, Cartier, JAR, Schlumberger, Tiffany and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others. Elizabeth Taylor always planned to offer her collection of jewelry at auction and I hope that the next owner of each of these iconic pieces will enjoy and respect these jewels just as much as she did, and as she herself said, ‘give them a really good home’.”
