London, United Kingdom – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Running through January 14th, 2012, London’s Shizaru gallery has unveiled “Art Rocks: Contemporary Jewellery,” an exhibition of the works of 10 designers curated by international jewelry authority Joanna Hardy.
The exhibition spotlights some of the world’s most talented established and emerging jewelry designers, including the UK’s own Shaun Leane, Zoe Arnold, Sophie Mann, Leo De Vrooman, Fred Rich and Kevin Coates. Rounding out the list of master jewelers are Japan’s Gimel, Germany’s Atelier Zobel, Turkey’s Sevan Biçakçi and the US’ ARK, showing across the pond for the first time.
Shaun Leane’s piece, Contra Mundum, took five years to make. Combining an armor-like structure with the delicate look of lace, it combines over 1,000 grams of 18K white gold finished with 5,000 dazzling pavé diamonds. Its value is estimated at roughly $1.9 million and will be available for sale at the gallery through January 30th.
“Jewelry of great craftsmanship, design and originality has always been my passion. I believe jewelry should reflect the wearer’s individuality, but to find well made, unique jewels is often not easy,” said Hardy. “These 10 eclectic international jewelry designers/makers, some of whom are established master craftsmen and others that are emerging or have never showcased in the UK before, have this talent. This exhibition puts jewels on a platform where they can be appreciated as wearable art.”
