Washington School House, Park City’s newest luxury hotel, opened its doors on December 27, just in time for January’s elite Sundance festivities. Located in the heart of downtown Park City, the boutique property resides in one of the country’s last surviving original school houses. Following an extensive eight-month restoration, the National Historic Registry landmark has emerged a thoughtfully curated space that maintains its historic integrity while offering beautiful, rustic-chic accommodations to discerning guests.
The original quarried limestone exterior gives way to a striking lobby with soaring ceilings, a roaring fireplace, a 10-foot tall antique mirror from a French opera house, and a gorgeous one-of-a-kind white antler chandelier. A new heated pool and spa have been terraced into the hillside, surrounded by aspens, spruce, and boulders.
Within the building’s original structure, Paul Allen Design and architect Trip Bennett have crafted 12 stunning rooms and suites. Many of the accommodations feature airy 16-foot ceilings and the school house’s original nine-foot windows, and all stay true to a design ethos of exquisite simplicity with neutral colors, original artwork, oak floors, and hand-selected antiques. Down feather beds, fine Pratesi linens, and heated bathroom floors are just a few of the amenities that make for a supremely comfortable stay. Of the five suites, the Penthouse Suite, with 270-degree views, private elevator entrance, and a fireplace with antique mantle, is truly spectacular.
Service – as carefully conceived as the décor – includes a ski valet (the hotel is just steps away from the town ski lift), in-house lift ticket purchase, in-room massage, and a 24-hour concierge ready to cater to your every need.
