Hermes, the timeless designer of elite fashion and accessories, is paying tribute to their early days in the form of a “Leather Forever” special exhibition.
Some of the pieces of note include a winged saddle in red, orange and yellow calfskin, combined with red and yellow crocodile. The Kelly bags are displayed in an oversized, neon Kelly sculpture—an eye-catching work in itself. Another attraction is Zouzou, the 1978 white rhinoceros made up of four white ostrich skins that has drawn praise from history’s most imaginative thinkers, including the late artist Salvador Dali.
Hermes is auctioning off four new handbags designed especially for the occasion, with the proceeds donated to the Royal Academy of the Arts. The auction will conclude once each bag is sold to the highest bidder at the end of the month.
“Leather Forever” debuted on May 8th and will be close on May 27th.
