Toronto – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
With more than 77 million Chinese travelers expected to take a trip overseas in 2012, and China fast becoming one of the world’s most influential global tourism markets, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts today announced a new Chinese Menu Program to appeal to Chinese guests. In over 60 Fairmont properties worldwide, restaurants will add authentic Chinese dishes to menus and adopt Chinese service customs.
“Personalization has and always will be a hallmark of the Fairmont experience, so to that end we’ve taken the proactive step of expanding our food and beverage programming with authentic touches that will help make our Chinese guests feel more comfortable and welcome,” said Jean Michel Offe, Fairmont’s Vice-President, Food & Beverage. “The new program is testament to our promise of anticipating the needs of our guests and delivering an experience that is both memorable and distinctive.”
New menu items will include congee—a traditional rice porridge eaten at breakfast—and a range of loose leaf teas from white, black and green teas to oolong and flowered teas. Chopsticks will be on hand for guests who prefer them, and groups will have the option of serving meals family-style with a variety of dishes.
In keeping with Chinese tradition, meals will consist of at least seven courses, but no more than 12. Where requested, serving staff will offer guests a cold towel at the start of a meal, and a hot towel at the end. All front of house staff will be briefed on appropriate Chinese etiquette.
As Fairmont expands its services for the Chinese traveler around the globe, the luxury brand is also growing in China. In addition to Fairmont Beijing, Fairmont Yangcheng Lake, and Shanghai’s Fairmont Peace Hotel, Fairmont expects to open new hotels in cities such as Nanjing, Taiyuan, and Chengdu in the near future.
