Capella Singapore, together with Opera Gallery, will open an exhibition of works by one of the most prominent and divergent artists of all time, Salvador Dalí. Opening July 28th, 2012, Opera Gallery will showcase eminent pieces from its collection set amid the picturesque surroundings of Capella Singapore.
In honor of Salvador Dalí and his hometown, Figueres in Catalonia, Spain, Bob’s Bar at Capella Singapore will also be creating a Catalan-inspired cocktail, Dalí, exclusively available during the exhibition.
Dalí (1904-1989) was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in 1931. Dalí’s expansive artistic repertoire included film, sculpture, and photography, in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media.
Dalí attributed his “love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes” to a self-styled “Arab lineage”, claiming that his ancestors were descended from the Moors.
Dalí was highly imaginative, and also indulged in unusual and grandiose behavior. His eccentric manner and attention-grabbing public actions sometimes drew more attention than his artwork, to the dismay of those who held his work in high esteem, and to the irritation of his critics.
Capella Singapore is ten minutes from the city of Singapore, set on the 30 rolling acres of Sentosa Island. Adjacent to the exclusive Sentosa Golf Club and neighboring One Degree 15 Marina and Sentosa Cove, guests can enjoy Sentosa Island resort living, and access to business and leisure activities.
The hotel’s two British colonial bungalows called Tanah Merah—or “red earth” in Malay—date back to the 1880s, and have been restored by architects Foster & Partners to complement the new hotel extension and villas.
