London, UK — Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
In this stylish restaurant near the US Embassy, Gordon Ramsay has struck a nice balance between French and Asian cuisine. With a prime spot on Grosvenor Square—one of London’s most prestigious addresses—Maze provides a refined but relaxed setting for business lunches and social gatherings alike.
David Rockwell conceived the elegant interiors, which borrow the best from Eastern minimalism. A series of screens made of wood, fabric and woven metal divide the dining room—a loose allusion to the maze in the name. Earthy tones dominate, with English oak floors, ebonized sapele wall panels and a walnut sliding door between the main dining room and private dining areas. The main dining room seats 90, with four private dining rooms for groups of ten to 40, and a chef’s table available for up to eight guests.
Diners can choose as many courses as they like from the à la carte or tasting menus, while the new rosewood sushi bar offers a less formal bite in line with the popular Japanese dining style. Head Chef Tristin Farmer changes the menu daily according to market specials, with many dishes cooked on a traditional charcoal robata grill, in the wood oven or on the plancha.
Highlights from the tasting menu include jasmine and miso cured salmon with beetroot, compressed apple and horseradish cream; spiced butternut squash soup with smoked beef and toasted pumpkin seeds; pressed chicken and foie gras with pear and saffron chutney, green tea caramel; seabream with razor clams, chili, lime, coriander and purple sprouting broccoli; and Szechuan-spiced Suffolk pork belly with braised discovery apple, kale and onion confit. Typical desserts include ‘Jelly and ice cream’ strawberries, champagne and cream soda with a waffle cone, a lemon refresher with lemon tart, confit lemons and raspberry ripple ice cream, and a plum terrine with custard ice cream and fruit soup.
