Milan Fashion Week Recap

Milan Fashion Week

Gucci’s Film Noir Femmes

By Drew Taylor

Following whirlwind fashion weeks in New York and London, global glitterati have descended on Milan for the stylish city’s turn in the spotlight, which began with a bang this Wednesday thanks to a strong, sexy show from Gucci.

The house offered up the kind of decadent, ladylike looks we’ve already seen this season from the likes of Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta in New York, but of course, creative director Frida Giannini offered her own uniquely Italian, ultra-sensual take on the trend—in the form of exotic skins (on seriously covetable bags and boots, as well as slinky tops and dresses), glossy pony hair, and lots of second-skin leather. The result was a 1940s femme fatale with a Gucci twist, in subtly oversized jackets with rounded shoulders teamed with curve-hugging pencil skirts for a glamorous reinterpretation of the power suit. A series of high drama evening gowns closed the show for an appropriately cinematic ending: Replete with fanciful feather adornments and languid satin skirts, they’re sure to have Hollywood’s A-list clamoring after them.
