Miami meets Mexico City might be one way to describe Hotel B Cozumel, a 45-key boutique hotel that has been open for about a year and a half.
The island has been popular for its diving and sports (there is an annual Iron Man) but never known for luxury accommodations. After traveling the world working for former Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Beatriz Tinajero decided to join her family’s hotel business, but saw this ideally located property as an opportunity to shake up the Cozumel accommodations scene.
Tinajero describes the place as “chic, design” with inspirations gained from her global visits. The hotel adds big city substance to its resort style with a weekly rotation of cultural workshops bringing in artisans from around the country who share the secrets of their crafts. Ongoing events for guests include fashion shows and flamenco dancing and there is live music on the weekend with DJs.
Located in a tranquil spot outside the main town, Hotel B Cozumel is about five minutes from the golf course, has its own dive shop, provides certification for divers, and even has its own dock. Bikes are available for guests and water sports include snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and kite surfing. There are daily yoga sessions.
The restaurant Costenito Bistro offers “MexMed cuisine” and features 11 styles of ceviche. There are facilities for weddings and meetings with a pier, the beach and wooden deck providing perfect venues.
A unique feature of Hotel B’s spa is its acquassage, a treatment performed in the water.
