He owns some of New York’s most recognizable real estate, but Donald J. Trump and family have long since moved beyond successful developers to create a luxury brand spanning hotels and resorts to championship golf courses and fine jewelry on a global basis.
Of course there is also fragrances, bottled water, men’s apparel and The Apprentice, the record-breaking reality television game show that brought a new meaning to the words: “You’re fired.” Following recent announcements on expansion in Scotland, Vancouver and Washington DC, Elite Traveler has put together our Trump Top 10, focused on elite traveler luxury.
Trump Tower New York
No list of Trump endeavors would be complete without Donald Trump’s Manhattan icon, one of the best-known buildings in the whole of New York, if not the world.
The mixed-use residential, office and retail skyscraper – completed in 1983 – includes a five-story marble and bronze atrium and epitomizes everything the Trump brand stands for: luxury, lavish living and achieving the American dream. However many around the globe may know it best as the setting for The Apprentice – home to the famous boardroom where the business tycoon utters the now immortal words: “You’re fired.”
Mar-a-Lago Club, Palm Beach Florida
Originally bought by ‘The Donald’ back in 1985 for use as a personal home, the ‘ultra exclusive’ Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach boasts 20 acres of manicured lawns, two grand ballrooms, croquet facilities, six championship tennis courts and a private beach.
Built in the twenties in an adaptation of the Hispano-Moresque style, this historically rich property sits on what is now thought to be the most valuable piece of land anywhere in Florida – with membership only granted to an exclusive few.
Trump INTERNATIONAL Hotel Las Vegas
A glittering 64-story mirage of golden glass just off the famous strip, Trump Hotel Las Vegas manages to stand out in an area preoccupied with eye-catching architecture.
With a heated outdoor pool on the seventh floor and exterior windows guilded in 24-carat gold, it’s one of the Trump family’s most impressive landmarks to date and the living embodiment of a lifelong dedication to providing the ultimate in luxury hospitality.
Jean-Georges Restaurant
Trump International Hotel & Tower’s signature restaurant – named after its famous French chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten – is one of five across the city to have been awarded three Michelin stars and a four star review from the notoriously hard-to-please New York Times.
With awe-inspiring views of Central Park and a critically acclaimed menu featuring an unusual blend of French and American cuisine, the Jean-Georges is undoubtedly the most precious culinary jewel in the Trump’s commercial dynasty.
Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry
Businesswoman extraordinaire and resident family fashionista Ivanka Trump has been busy in recent years lending both her name and style credentials as a former model to a variety of endeavors including footwear, handbag and fragrance collections.
The multi-talented economics graduate, who studied at Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, launched Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry in 2007, which holds a unique position in the market owing to a modern, fresh take on classic twentieth century styles.
Trump Ocean Club Panama
Shaped to look like a windblown sail, the 70-story Trump Ocean Club Panama is the highest building in Latin America and one of the city’s newest landmarks, spectacularly jutting out onto the Punta Pacifica Peninsula.
Like many Trump-owned properties, it presents an attractive mix of luxury condos and guest suites to its prospective occupants, with one to four bedroom residences selling from $300,0000 to over $2 million. Suites on the curve of the building offer guests stunning floor-to-ceiling views of the Pacific Ocean, unlikely to be rivaled elsewhere.
TRUMP NATIONAL GOLF CLUB LOS ANGELES
Describing itself as the “perfect getaway for the busy executive”, Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles is the most expensive golf course ever constructed, costing over $250 million Trump dollars to create.
The world class facility includes a double-sided practice tee, two short-game improvement areas and three practice greens, as well as a ballroom and a 45,000 square foot clubhouse, with its Golf Academy offering avid players the chance to enhance their skills and gain an edge over the competition.
Sixteen restaurant
A recent recipient of a Michelin star and a five-star rating from Forbes travel guide, Chicago’s Sixteen restaurant at Trump Hotel Chicago has been widely lauded for its progressive American cuisine.
Since Executive Chef Thomas Lents took over in February last year, this fine dining purveyor has gone from strength to strength, with guests given a chance to take part in an eight-course tasting or even a 16-course ‘journey’, should they feel up for the challenge.
Trump International Hotel Washington DC
Year-long negotiations with the U.S. General Services Administration finally came to an end in June, with The Trump Organization becoming the preferred developer of the iconic Old Post Office building in Washington DC.
Under the new agreement, Donald Trump and his team have agreed to preserve and enhance the historic features of the site, in return receiving an unprecedented commercial opportunity to create one of the most instantly recognizable luxury hotels in the world. The complex will include over 260 rooms, a spa, conference facilities and a ballroom and is slated for completion in 2016.
Trump International Golf Links Scotland
Spanning 500 hectares of dramatic coastal landscape, The Trump Organization made an impressive coup in 2006 when it secured a large part of the 14th century Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire in order to create a world class golfing resort.
Its championship golf course opened to the public in 2012, with plans for a second 18-hole site – named after Trump’s Scottish-born mother Mary MacLeod – currently on hold until the business mogul’s opposition to a government-proposed windfarm is resolved.
