The head bartender at the Savoy’s American Bar speaks to Elite Traveler TV about keeping the iconic bar’s heritage alive and explains how to make Harry Craddock’s famous White Lady cocktail.
There’s no doubt that you have to be a liquid legend to be head bartender at The Savoy’s American Bar, especially when you’re following in the footsteps of famous mixologists such as Harry Craddock, who brought cocktails to London in the 1920s.
And with a world champion bartending award under his belt, numerous other titles and an impressive work history – including mixologist at the Connaught Bar, London – it seems that Erik Lorincz is just the man for the job.
“What I would like to bring to the American Bar is to keep the heritage and history,” says the Slovakian-born bartender. “The former bartenders who were here created such a big piece of history and to follow on from them was probably the biggest competition.
“I think having the Diageo World Class in my back pocket is a great achievement and helped me to make this happen.”
Lorincz adds that it is important for him to keep up the good work of legendary bartenders such as Harry Craddock, who made cocktails famous all over the world.
“Stepping into such big shoes and following that is not easy but I think that it is not a competition, so I’m up for the challenge,” he says.
